What Our Clients Have to Say:

Letter from Rick Carlise - Training the Dallas Mavericks in September 2008 - see the photo gallery.

Three years ago, I was, at 60-something, sedentary with chronic back pain, puffy knees and an astonishing lack of flexibility. Although I was essentially healthy, it was getting harder to get up off the ground, hoist myself into an SUV and run up a flight of stairs. Figuring I was too young for this, I wandered into Progressive Fitness one day and met David Drake, who was willing to take me on! It is in no way an overstatement to say that since then his training and guidance have made an enormous difference in my life. Call it a calibrated sense of physical, mental and emotional balance. Call it strength. Call it intelligent, sensitive self-care: Today I am in better shape than ever. David is doing the job he was born to do. He and his partner have gathered a wonderful team of trainers and their clients, like me, keep coming back. It's because they know their stuff. Their studio is immaculate, cheerful and professional, and -- best of all -- a caring place. I try to keep to twice-a-week, one-on-one sessions, which are varied and progressively challenging. But the real proof is when I miss training for a few weeks, I rebound amazingly quickly. I would recommend Progressive Fitness to anyone, at any age. It works.

I'm 59 years old and have shunned exercise my entire life. Lack of exercise and sitting at a computer all day have ruined my posture, caused weight gain, and caused neck, shoulder and back stiffness and pain. I also was afraid that my senior years would be spent in pain, rather than enjoying life. Two years ago, I decided to reclaim my health before it was too late and I started exercising. However, every time I started exercising on my own, I would injure myself. Then I'd have to wait for the injury to heal before I could start exercising again. This scenario happened over and over and was really disheartening for me. Finally, either I injured myself or my non-exercising past caught up with me, but I could barely get out of bed in the morning because of nerve pain in one leg and lower back pain.

At the time, I was seeing a chiropractor. His adjustments helped greatly, but I was not able to hold an adjustment for more than an hour, so the pain returned again and again. He suggested I go to Progressive Fitness and have their experts design an exercise program for me that would, among other things, strengthen my core so that I can hold the adjustments. Within a few days of starting the exercise program with Annie, the pain started to decrease. Now, after two months of working with Annie, I am free of pain and feeling great! The results I've had with them in such a short period of time is, to me, a great gift for a second chance.

I know that what I've started requires a lifetime commitment if I want to enjoy the rest of my time on earth. I make that commitment here and now. Thank you, Annie and Progressive Fitness, for everything you've done and will continue doing to help me live the best life possible.

When Mike asked what my goals for training were, I said: 1. Fit into my (2nd) wedding dress and, 2. be able to carry many bags of groceries in at once. After years of trying gyms on my own, other trainers, aerobics and other classes, this was all I could imagine training would do for me. Now, 5 years later, I have a whole new perspective.

I have become stronger, more flexible, and have better posture than I ever could have imagined. I can push myself to lift weights - and even swing Kettlebells! My back pain, which was on and off since 1982, is now gone. Now I can tell in advance when I have "triggered"
my back and also know what to do to mitigate those symptoms.

Mike has also helped me and my family recognize better ways of eating.

Although I am still middle-aged and a little overweight, by choosing better foods, I have more energy during the day and less "digestive"
issues. And my girls have learned better tools for nutrition from me!

Mike and the Progressive Fitness team have made a big difference in my physical and mental health. I now want and need to be training, and I even miss it when I am out of town. For those who don't know me - "in my day" girls didn't train. At best we played half-court basketball; and I never learned how to play a team sport. So, all of this exercise ability is so surprising. Even more amazing, I am taking an extra Functional Kettlebell class once a week. Who knew?
